Late June
Teasers begin airing for the SpongeBob Canada Day Bananza on YTV channels, including a supposed teaser for the live action segment, “Spongebob Goes To Toronto”
July 1
6:00am - The SpongeBob Canada Day Bananza is aired on YTV channels, starting with reruns of Season 3, Season 4 episodes along with a handful of exclusive teasers showcasing new episodes.
12:00pm - SpongeBob Goes To Toronto begins airing, showcasing SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs getting up to hijinxs across downtown Toronto, as well as visiting various landmarks such as the C.N. Tower. The live action segment is scheduled to go on until 10:00pm with various pre-recorded SpongeBob themed promotions and some episodes, ending with a firework show.
1:30 / 2:00pm - It’s thought that around this time a glitch occurs during an episode of Spongebob. As of March 1, 2021, it is unknown what episode this was or the severity of it.
4:09pm - The second known glitch occurs, this time during the episode "Bummer Vacation." This is the only known recording of the marathon that has surfaced online as of March 1, 2021.
6:00pm - During the Spongebob Goes To Toronto segment, an audible thud is heard somewhere in the background of the airing. The cameras shortly afterwards are covered before going to commercial. Reruns of older Spongebob Squarepants episodes are only shown until 10:00pm, where regular YTV broadcasting resumes.
2009
January 2
Channel “dillawesome” uploads a video called “Canadian SpongeBob Glitch.” The video is a low quality showing of the 4:09pm glitch that occurred during the marathon. Outside of this upload, no other known footage has surfaced from the marathon online.
2017
October 25
A reddit post is posted on r/tipofmytongue titled “[TOMT] [TV SPECIAL] Canadian spongebob special that had spongebob and friends in Toronto, Canada Day, 2007-2008”. No known archives of the post itself exist as any attempts to find a modern match to the url leads to a deleted post.
2020
July 25
User Incidental1055 posts on the sbmania.net forums, detailing their recollection of the marathon broadcast, showcasing as well two wayback machine links in their post.
July 27
The Canadian Sponge discord server is made to archive findings regarding the Spongebob Canada Day Marathon and Spongebob Goes To Toronto
September 4
A throwaway account posts the obituary of Dennis Troustein into the server, becoming the main piece of evidence surrounding the Dennis Theory.
2021
January 2
The 2009 upload of the 4:09pm glitch was discovered by a user on the Canadian Sponge discord server, creating a public archive of it.
March 9
Low quality renders for promotional material are found relating to the marathon.
March 11
Following an admin abuse attack by former admin tridentcora and a related raid on the server due to community drama, the Canadian Sponge discord is deleted and the archive is moved onto canadiansponge.neocities.org
